Agrestic

about

The word ‘agrestic’ means rural, of the countryside. It can also mean rough, uncouth. Despite what I’ve written above I had the title before the tune on this one, as I’ve been toying with an album related to my childhood in Lincolnshire. And although I grew up in a market town and therefore was a townie to my village-based mates, I still felt closer to the countryside than the city.

When I was first chatting to Frazer about the possibility of putting something out on Werra Foxma, he did say if I could do something like my Pastoral Pyramids ep, that’d be great.

So that’s where this came from. I co-opted the title to give me a focus and tried to write another ‘here’.

I didn’t manage that, but Agrestic bloomed into something of its own. This started with the uncomplicated little chord sequence you can hear on the soft electric piano sound and the simple little lead lines followed as it adopted an unhurried stance - and then I completely lucked out on the percussion & gated pad, which is a single preset I stumbled over that I could slot in as if it had been made for the tune.
